If you’re new to vaping, then you are probably wondering what it is all about. In the following guide will we explain what e-liquid is and how to choose a good e-liquid for you.

What Are the Main Ingredients of E-Liquid?

E-liquid is made up of between four and five ingredients; that’s it! We live in a world where we are much more aware of the ingredients of the products which we use, e-liquid or e-juice is no different. The main ingredients of e-liquid are:

Propylene Glycol – This is what gives e-liquids it’s throat hit, similar to the feeling you get when you inhale a traditional cigarette. It is also thin and flavorless, making it an ideal ingredient to carry the flavor. PG doesn’t produce a lot of vapor, which is why it is normally mixed with other ingredients.

Vegetable Glycerin – VG is the main ingredient of all e-liquids. VG is a thicker vegetable based substance that has a slightly sweet taste, and by itself is hard to vape because of its thickness. VG is what produces the most vapor, which is why cloud chasers prefer e-liquids with a high VG or 100% VG ratio.

Nicotine – This is in most e-liquids, but is entirely up to personal preferences. Many ex-smokers start off with a high percentage of nicotine and then gradually transition down to zero nicotine e-liquids. The nicotine found in most e-liquid is pure pharmaceutical grade nicotine. It’s important to remember that when you’re vaping you get less nicotine than you would from a traditional cigarette.

Flavors – This is where vaping gets fun! Most flavors are made up of natural ingredients and the only limit to flavors is your own imagination. There are a variety of different flavors, fruits, candy, drinks, tobacco, and desserts. Many new vapors start off with simple flavors and then transition up too complicated multi-layered flavor profiles.

Distilled Water – Rarely used. Distilled water is sometimes used to weaken e-liquids or dilute strong flavor profiles

When you are choosing an e-liquid, there are a variety of different choices for you to choose from. Some flavors you’ll fall in love, others may sit in a cupboard for a long period and end up being thrown away. Choose e-juice in the smaller sample bottles, 10 ml or 30 ml, before you commit to a larger bottle.

You can also buy your own ingredients and produce your own e-liquids and e-juices if you prefer, ultimately it’s up to you. Remember, if you’re looking for a stronger throat hit, stick with e-liquids that contain a higher PG/VG ratio. If you want to chase some of those big fluffy clouds you see experienced vapors produce, you’ll want a high VG/PG or 100% VG ratio e-liquid.
